Given that Gilroy takes heavy inspiration from real current and historical resistance and rebel movements, it would make sense to have the rebellion seek aid from organized crime groups that also have grievances with the Empire. It would add an extra layer of moral complexity.

It is known that the Corsican mafia aided the French Resistance and Allies during the French occupation. Several Sicilian mafia groups also aided the Allies in Italy as Mussolini had it out for them. Obviously there was payment involved as well, as well as certain agreements where the Government would turn a blind eye to several of their criminal activies post-war.

In Director Krennic's meeting 20 minutes into season 2 episode 1 of Andor there is a scene where they show promotional material of Ghorman in "the Great Valleys of Ghorman" in his meeting. I want to know how long "the Great Valleys of Ghorman" is before Krennic pauses it. It would be great to know how long "The Great Valleys of Ghorman" really is.

I might completely be seeing something that isn’t there but the end of episode 3 very much reminded me of the beginning of S1E1.

In S1E1 Cassian is (somewhat) minding his own business. He has a mission but wants to interact with as few people as possible and get away scot free. He ends up getting harassed by people he was trying to avoid. The first one he kills by blunt force. The second he makes a conscious decision to shoot.

Bix does the exact same thing in that episode. She is in a situation she wanted to avoid, she defends herself and the asshole dies by hitting metal after Bix hit him. The second she shoots.

Again, could totally be seeing something that’s not there but it seems to be an exact mirror.

UPDATE: Actually has some spoilers for later parts of S2 as well! Really good stuff here. Cassian's line about "home is Bix and that tells you what's happened in the past year" is just fantastic.

In the first episode of the show, Cassian gets approached by Nurch(?) and Murk (?) about money he owes Nurch. Nurch had hired or asked Murk to help him intimidate Cassian to get his money. Cassian, rather than address the main issue, immediately starts trying to pit them against eachother. He asks Murk why he's taking orders and ultimately dismantles their agreement a little to get out of the situation.

In the second season he does the same thing with the Yavin rebels, everytime he's alone with one he starts sowing discord or trying to create leverage or an ally. I just thought it was cool how consistent his methods are and how good he is at picking at people's motivations. Just thought it was a cool detail.

i know it's not like that in the Expanded Universe nor in thr videogame where it's shown. But the fact the Avenger is a prototype in Andor and it featurong what it seems to feature a very powerful unusual cannon on the bottom (the one Andor kills the tropper with a skyrocket with) made me wonder if they will suggest that was a prototype of a new kind of cannons they will eventially lead the Resistance to know about the Empire developing a (much) bigger one for the Death Star. I guess next episodes will tell but i like to speculate! :)

I just made a medley video of Andor soundtracks and requested it on a stream. Everyone loved the music, but the guy and multiple people in the chat said that "they don't like talking about Star Wars anymore". They were mostly blaming how toxic the fandom is, how they are sending death threats to actors and being all kinds of phobic. And that, is keeping them from watching the show, even though they SAW how critically acclaimed it is. Sadly, the fans are not the biggest problem with this show, after all, Disney has been the one putting out absolute dogshit for a decade, making the actors involved absolutely DOOMED and HUMILIATED, and thus the target of toxicity. Disney ruined so many people's chances of discovering an absolutely brilliant show, just because it has "Star Wars" attached to it. And prejudice is a strong emotion. The absolute clusterfuckery that's going on right now over the Bix scene does NOT help our case either...

Why is Leida so accepting of her forced marriage?

The guy not holding her hand will surely be the least of her worries about that marriage as time goes on.

Mon encourages her to not go through with it, and her response is to lash out at her (“I wish you were drunk”).

We got that bit in S1 where Leida is shown to be really into Chandrilan traditions, and I don’t get that part either.

Throughout the trailers so far, we’ve seen how Dedra has some sort of anxiety attacks, where she’s grabbing at her throat. With her being in control of Gorman, what are the chances that during a protest she gets a panic attack, where she flashes back to the riot on Ferrix and she orders troopers to stomp it out?

Something I feel like was missing for me in S2 is a total lack of alien species, to me it felt like the few aliens that were just in the background were only there bc they were like "oh yeah I guess SW should have some aliens so let's put some in the background." I miss dialougue between aliens and humans where the viewer has to infer what they're saying. That's great that Disney is about diversity but I feel like they just forgot about alien diversity lol. It's all humans now. To me this is definitely one of "doesnt feel like SW" things. Idk. Just me?

OK, so there have been a lot of opinions about the wedding but I have to say part of it was so absolutely boring I had to fast forward through it, even at the risk of missing some important plot dialog. Why would I want to watch a wedding ceremony of people (Leida Mothma and Stekan Sculdun) I don’t know or care about and then watch their wedding dance. Sure, the dance music portion was good, but as a whole, much of it could have been cut. Get to the action and the story! The pacing seemed really off. Ok, rant over.

I just don’t get it. People should hate Mon Mothma for what she did to her fighter. Instead we get hatred towards the second nicest mother in the show, and I wanna know why

I'll start this with a question. Have you seen Chef? The movie that's not really about being a Chef. It's Favreau's frustration's about being a creative put into film form.... I think Andor can also be viewed this way. Let me explain. And illustrate what happens when you don't watch Andor Season 2 literally, but as an analogue, a metaphor. A parting shot on the company that chewed them up and spat them out, along with all their friends, and ruined a franchise that so many loved.

Episode 1.

Cassian steals a prototype tie fighter. Particularly the bit where he's crashing around the hanger, a direct call to one of the Jar Jar Abrams films. This is a metaphor for people being gifted the keys to a sci fi franchise that they had no idea how to 'fly'.

Cassian captured by the Maya Pei brigade. Cassian as the IP itself, thinking he's there for an exchange, being handed off to someone who will continue his legacy. Instead he's ambushed and taken prisoner by warring factions who don't care about him, only their own agenda. Of particular note is how emotionally driven their dialogue is, it's a jarring tone shift from the rest of the series. Clearly there to reference the sequel trilogy and other spinoff''s crap writing.

Mon Mothma Marriage Arc - This is code for George Lucas selling his franchise for monetary reasons, and feeling damn dirty about it.

Krennic meeting - Plotting to seize this proud IP and harvest it for resources for their agenda.

Episode 2.

Cassians escape - code for the experience of making rogue one. They had to sneak out a win while the main factions were distracted by the main sequel trilogy.

Audits - code for the heavy handed corporate disney overlords wielding power over people just trying to work.

mon mothmas friend - at first a willing conspirator but angry at how much the rebels have hurt his investments. This could be code for either some of the big wigs at disney who are rumoured to finally be getting together to throw KK out. 10 years too late.

dedra and syril dinner. syrils mother being unbelievably toxic and overbearing being a stand in for KK. Syril doing what most did to keep their wage, roll over and do what their told. Dedra doing what they wish they could do, tell her to smeg off.

Episode 3.

Mina Rau Rescue - That shot with the storm trooper slowly aiming and an important character like Brasso, Cassian (the IP's) biggest supporter, being killed off screen. Is a reference to how Disney has worked hard to kill off the IP's older male fanbase.

Tie fighter escape - cassian (worn out veterans), the twink (fans who grew up on the prequels), and generic female character, are all that's left of the star wars fanbase. trying to escape their corporate overlords in their one liferaft, the experimental tie fighter (the andor show), without support, to try and find a safe home for themselves in a lonely universe.

Mon Mothma agreeing to kill Luthen Rael's - I really hope that's code for a plot to dethrone KK and the other big wigs who have ruined star wars and many other loved genre's like Indiana Jones. And this is a nod to the fans 'ok fine we're finally gonna do what we should of done and gut the weakness from the company before proceeding'.

It's been a few days since I've watched it, so I missed a few details I picked up when watching it the first time. But I found myself unable to watch it literally, only metaphorically. I feel like I've hit the mark with my observations too. Do you guys agree?

Depending on who survives S2+Rogue One, which Andor character would you love to get a spinoff? I’d love a show about rebel intelligence based on Kleya and Luthen.

Any guesses on what Syril’s mom was going to say she thought Dedra would look like? I’m assuming his mom was going to say herself, just to make it even more painfully awkward.

In Episode 3 when Brasso got captured he blamed the farm guy for turning him in and I was really angry at the guy, but now I'm seeing people say Brasso was trying to protect the farm guy? Did he turn Brasso in or what? Explain it to me like I'm 7.

I do not consider myself a member of this community, or largely the Star Wars fandom (Hi! Thanks for having me.). I felt compelled to make this post after realizing there were 3 episodes out of season 2 already and binging them.

It has been so long since I have just sat and watched and enjoyed myself with episodic TV. I’m sure there’s been more, but writing this, the best example I recall is actually Andor Season 1. So many stand-out moments there, already plenty here.

Seriously think about it, what was the last show you watched that you felt could be trusted with the themes it wanted to cover? Because especially after the 3rd episode, with how topical and well-handled the story beats were to our modern times, I am just really happy to be impressed by a show again.

I am so used to shows either butchering the execution and being used as ammunition for 5-7 years of comment slop online or pulling its punches before getting to the heart of the matter, and I’m just very impressed.

That’s all! I don’t know anyone who has seen this show and felt an impetus to share.

So exactly what do I need to know before watching the highly reviewed series?

It might be just me, but I feel all the posts in this sub are geared towards people well versed in all things Star Wars.

I've missed all nuance this season!

Tony Gilroy is an absolute mad man. He has me absolutely locked in watching an imperial officer awkwardly meeting their partner's mom for the first time.

Dedra and Syril's storyline is so interesting because you jumpcut to them living a relatively normal home life while everyone else is fighting for their lives. Seems like Gilroy really wanted to enforce the sense of normalcy life provides when you give into and work within the fascist regime that is currently in power.

Honestly there storyline reminds me of "The Zone of Interest". A Nazi family living out a "Normal life" right outside a concentration camp.

I thought the secret meeting where all these space fascists plan to plunder the natural resources of a peaceful world was a great choice. I enjoyed the two ministry of enlightenment goons and their pompous attitude.

If anyone else has seen the movie Conspiracy about the Wansea Confrence during WW2 the Scenes from episode one of season 2 really reminded me of that. Did a great job at getting across the banality of evil.

Why is mon and Luthen freaking out so bad particularly Mon. Losing her daughter because of the money issue I understand but what’s the deal with the other reasons?

can we please remember to mark *posts* as spoilers if they are discussing the new season? even just the screenshot stuff and memes? and can we be more circumspect with the titles? it's easy, it's up there at the bottom of the flairs menu.

not all of us are able to watch it when it first gets released, yet i've already had enough out of context spoilers dropped on me that i've seriously considered just leaving the group so that when i do get a chance to watch it, i will be able to enjoy it without my brain putting 2&2 together halfway through episodes and ruining the impact.

The humor always seems to be more than surface level too, often foreshadowing and creating allusion at time. Also, generally just adding more layers and depth overall. Really phenomenal Work from writers all around.

They say Andir in every single one of these. I've watched all the currently available episodes and Andir hasn't been mentioned once. Will they appear in later episodes of season two?
